D'Addario EXL110 Nickel Wound Electric Guitar Strings, Regular Light, 10-46

When I got my first electric guitar. (a stratocaster) I was remisce as to what strings I should buy. I was told that D'addarios were the most popular so I went with them. They seemed good enough.

Now it's a little over a year later and my knowledge of guitars has grown a lot. I now know more about string gauges and materials and stuff like that, so I feel more enclined to review this product accurately.

The first thing I would say about these strings is that the materials are very good quality. Their not too slick but not too rough. If you want to have a more slick metallic feel to your strings I would say go with Ernie Ball. They are about the same quality anyway. D'addarios just feel right to me. They have an overall good feel to their performance and they may seem a little rough or hard to play at first but after a while you start to appreciate them more.

Now about the gauge. Since I was a beginner at electric, I was advised to go with .10 since it's the most common gauge. To tell the truth I didn't even know what gauge was at the time... What I do know is that I play in both standard and in drop D and these strings did the trick.

Later though, I began exploring lower tunings like Drop C and some going half a step down, ect... That's when I realized something was wrong. The strings were buzzing. Little did I know that tuning back and forth like that was not good for my guitar, and the .10 gauge strings were not suitable for this.

eventually, I figured all this stuff out and made the appropriate changes. I now play in Drop D almost all the time and I find that the .11 gauge D'addarios are quite suitable for that. But whenever your going to play in standard tuning, I would say get these.

Martin MSP4150 SP Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings, Light-Medium

I own a Martin D-15 acoustic guitar (the all-mahogany dreadnought) and found that with the medium strings (the 13-56) I was getting AMAZING volume and tone but that they were exerting a bit too much tension on my guitar. It was a very tricky guitar to set up, and I didn't want to fool with it any more. I switched to the light gauge (the 12s) and found that I lost too much volume and tone and that they weren't exerting ENOUGH tension on the the guitar--the strings were "bottoming out" and rattling against the fingerboard. I despaired of getting my guitar set up the right way, (didn't want to spend the extra moolah for ANOTHER set-up) but then I found out about the "light/medium" gauge, which i believe goes from .0125 for the high "E" to .055 for the low "E." I ordered, they arrived, and they are PERFECT for me. They exert exactly the right amount of pull on my guitar (the tension is midway bewteen the lights and the mediums) and the tone and volume are FANTASTIC. These stings are bright, even, and somewhat chimey-sounding on my guitar, and nicely LOUD.

With this gauge, you get the booming, bluegrassy bottom (although nicely balanced overall) but with a bit more "play" in the strings--therefore, lead runs are a bit easier, less "stiff," especially high up on the neck. I would recommend them to anyone who finds mediums too stiff and lights too quiet. The best of both worlds. They are, it seems, easier to find on-line than in stores. Not many people are hip to these strings, but it is well worth seeking them out.

Of course, they are Martin strings, and people either like the sound of Martin strings or they don't. If you dig Elixirs (and I DO NOT) then these aren't for you. The treble strings (bronzed in the SP sets) have a very nice tone, slightly mellower and at the same time louder (less sharp and trebly/shrill) than the plain steel strings of the other Martin sets.

Yamaha PKBB1 Single Braced Adjustable X-Style Keyboard Bench

First of all, the PKBB1MM is the same model as the PKBB1. In fact, the box for this bench leaves off the MM suffix. So, it would seem that the same bench is being sold twice on Amazon, for two different prices. Go for whichever is cheaper.

Now, as far as the bench goes, it's not bad, especially for the price. Raising and lowering could be easier--as is, it involves unscrewing a knob, pulling out a bolt, holding a bunch of washers in place, and screwing the knob back into the bolt at the desired height. Not as horrible as it sounds, but could be annoying if you're taking this bench to a gig. If you're using it in your home, however, you'll probably just leave it in one position anyway.

The other downfall of this bench is that its highest setting is not all that high. I'm six feet tall, have a digital piano with the keys positioned at exactly the height of a regular grand piano, and honestly, the bench makes me feel a little short. Two or three inches more height would be perfect.

The upsides are: 1) the cushion is quite comfortable, even for extended playing; it feels almost like visco-elastic foam. 2) The bench is reasonably sturdy and well-built, considering the small size and the low cost.

Overall, I'd recommend this bench for home use, but only because it is dramatically cheaper than anything else in its class.

These LED are awesome. Installing this thing is a NIGHTMARE. I spent 2 days installing this cause of the soldering i had to do for corners. If you dont mind the soldering or plan to install in the way that it DOES bend. then installation should be easy. I used clear silicone for extra hold after I stuck it to the bottom of the granite with the tape it came with. Used telephone cable wires for the joins. Works perfect. Nice controls.
I took one star off for the difficulty of the installation. I know this is hard for others that don't have an engineer or electrical background. Then again if you have never soldered before; this is a great way to learn. Remember scrape of the silicone covering the connection before you solder them together. If you have enough patience to read about soldering then I'm sure anyone with common sense and some drive some people can do it without any experience, but Common sense isn't so common. If your one of the people that have common sense but no drive.
Trust me you will regret attempting this install UNLESS you do it the flexible way. It's ONLY flexible one way. If you intend to buy without soldering, then you can ONLY install it the flexible way.
If you want the light to face down and you install it on the roof. When you reach a corner. SOLDER TIME. if you want the light up the by facing horizontal and you are sticking them to the wall. Then your in LUCK. No Soldering for the corner in that application. Have Fun. So worth the hard work of soldering.

Snark SN-13 Chromatic Tuner, Gloss White

really like the white. It's a welcome change from the two red snarks I have. The button is more of a click on/off vs a hold in to turn on/off. That's a nice upgrade.

The color intensity of the screen is the same as the previous snarks. This one doesn't give as much detail in the screen (less frequency bars vs the red snark), but seems to tune just as well. For the beginner to intermediate player this is more than adequate.

I absolutely love snarks as a whole and would recommend them to practically anyone. Price to performance is the best out of any tuner that I am aware of and they are an absolute must to anyoe who takes music seriously. Even alternate tunings are a breeze.
